Silken Scarf

Only words
bind us together
emotive, powerful yet destructive
hate you, adore you, you’re so Aargh!
just a sound, shapes scribbled down
intangible, yes, but still
scratch hearts with sadness:
only words I throw at you
not fists nor china cups of
cracked mouldy blue:
words are the weave
that wove our love...
to lose myself in you
to be a silken scarf
to warm your throat
whence words flow true;
oh to close my eyes and
touch a memory held so tight,
let words fall in the shape of a kiss
onto my longing lips this winter’s night.

  7. after the words the silk scarf could have been a noose but instead it becomes the tie that binds you - such beautiful words tightly structured and yet free to flow

  8. This one flows so effortlessly Julian - a real song from the heart - and always admire when people can write in the shape of a dress.. ;)

  9. I like the idea of throwing words rather than fists or cups. Words can indeed be a strong weapon; but better that words are that 'silken scarf' to give a person warmth and pleasure. And, ah, words that fall in the shape of a kiss -- no greater joy!

  10. 'Hate you, adore you, you're so Argh!" made me smile. I so know that feeling. Words "scratch hearts with sadness", but they warm up as the poem progresses, to beautiful images. A wonderful poem to read.

  13. Yes, words can have so many effects on us, and the best to 'fall in the shape of a kiss' on one's lips. Love the metaphor 'to be a silken scarf to warm your throat' ~ written by heart.

How very true Julian! The pen is sharper than the sword so they say.

  18. Love! it's so hrd to forget words, to use words to erase words, to use words to blow the kiss.
