Dark Horizons

How many will cry beneath darkened skies?
The zephyr’s warmth chills to a frosty blue
the fragility’s there for all to see;
war words in the game of diplomacy:

politicians talk for the populous
and now, escalation, incredulous!

And there, lost within a volley of words
hides a greying truth, a boil laced with lies
and the tears will fall under cloudy skies.
How many will die beneath darkened skies?

  3. a dystopian future you have brought to our attention with such clarity Julian - before then we will be snowed under in cliches and a playground war of words from our defence minister!

  4. There are some warning rumblings coming from all over the world today. I hope it is mostly just the sound of saber rattling and not the true thunder of an unavoidable storm.

  5. The contradiction portrayed by the last line of your first stanza says it all.

  7. Indeed political talk, talk, talk only leads to more death and no solutions...strong, visceral words in this but much needed!

  8. I take it you are referring to the Russian situation in the UK. We live in a dangerous world and politicians do not seem to be expressing the wishes of the people. In your avatar you look pretty chilled out playing your guitar.
in your straw hat..Maybe that is the best space to be in ...in a world gone mad:)

  9. I wonder why the sky almost always seems dark... maybe it's just for politicians to shine brighter... look at the side and you will see that the dawn is near

    2. Indeed Julian, and how we worry of what could be.
If you are alluding to Russia and the UK - a strong response had to be made, lest we show ourselves as vulnerable to/accepting of, the dangerous games of Putin and his ilk.
Let us hope it ends with sabre-rattling...(and we did need to rattle.)

  10. Yes. Exactly. "War words" and "diplomacy" dont go together very well, do they? I, too, am incredulous at just how horrible this is, and how the governmental body allows it to continue. Not just allows, but fans the flames. Well, now we know what a strong republican government looks like and it is a nightmare.

  12. Your poem echoes my sentiments! Politicians talk for the populous indeed, and it amazes me how many believe the volley of words that spew forth! Excellent and timely poem.
