Crises

Shocking to think in our advanced world that this is allowed to continue.

In
abject
 poverty
women trudge
earthenware pots
balanced on heads
fetching water
not fit for
consumption
many dying of
starvation.
Violent conflicts
guns rat tat tattle
follow the red dot
see where it stops
eye sight  down
the rifle barrel,
a young girl
takes aim,
with blood,
her hands
are stained.

  2. I love how you have crafted the shape of this poem - quite literally - how the world can define us and quietly destroy us should circumstance be cruel

  4. ...aiming down that rifle barrel is how the world's crises distort people's finest instincts ... I like to think we're working on this, but it may only be a drop in the ocean of oppression. AS if there weren't enough to share!

    1. As you say we're working on this and if only one drop in the ocean helps just one person then it's been worthwhile. Thank you for commenting, Susan.

  7. You write this with such clarity, you make us see it. It is hard to understand why we have not evolved from this. So we'll written.

  8. The Drought has stricken...in land & in heart...what is dangerous is everyone is adapting to it except perhaps a few conscientious hearts, the only light in the time of darkness...

  11. it's really sad to learn that young children are recruited and trained as soldiers and killers. and the money to buy arms can be better used to build infrastructure. but such is the way the world is heading and perhaps education is the way out of this.
    a very real-world poem, Julian.
